{"id":4150,"date":"2020-10-08T17:30:39","date_gmt":"2020-10-08T17:30:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thealliancefastpitch.flywheelsites.com\/?p=4150"},"modified":"2020-10-08T17:30:39","modified_gmt":"2020-10-08T17:30:39","slug":"heart-of-america-fastpitch-league-to-cover-20-states-in-four-divisions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thealliancefastpitch.com\/cfl\/2020\/10\/08\/heart-of-america-fastpitch-league-to-cover-20-states-in-four-divisions\/","title":{"rendered":"Heart of America Fastpitch League to Cover 20 States in Four Divisions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic this year has been the push to make summer club softball more regionalized.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, several top travel ball organizations in Texas announced the formation of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/extrainningsoftball.com\/breaking-news-texas-fastpitch-league-created-by-top-travel-teams-for-summer-club-play\/\"><strong>Texas FastPitch League<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0which will merge existing events sanctioned by the league with a new event called the TFL Championship that will keep all participating tournaments within driving distance.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-23569 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/extrainningsoftball.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/HFL-Logo-300x177.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"217\" \/>Today, a group of top fastpitch organizations across the country made a similar announcement of a league called the\u00a0<strong>Heart of America Elite Fastpitch League<\/strong>\u00a0(\u201cHFL\u201d) which will have one major difference: it will encompass the Central and Eastern halves of the country and consist of four geographical divisions; West, North, Central and East.<\/p>\n<p>The head of the HFL, Commissioner\u00a0<strong>Ryan Taylor\u00a0<\/strong>who runs the Aces Fastpitch organization based in Missouri, says that each team will play within its region through already established events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough this league we will grow the game of fastpitch regionally and nationally in a college league format,\u201d he says. \u201cOur desire is to see all teams prepare their players, parents, and coaches for the collegiate level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Heart of America Elite Fastpitch League divisions includes the following states along with Washington D.C:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Central<\/em>: Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Pennsylvania<\/li>\n<li><em>East:<\/em>\u00a0North Carolina, Virginia, Washington D.C., Maryland, Delaware<\/li>\n<li><em>North:<\/em>\u00a0Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, South Dakota, North Dakota<\/li>\n<li><em>West:<\/em>\u00a0Missouri, Oklahoma, Iowa, Arkansas, Kansas, Nebraska<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Taylor says the idea for the Heart of America Elite Fastpitch League has been in discussion even prior to the announcement of the Texas FastPitch League.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been kicking the idea around (of the HFL) for the last month,\u201d Taylor explains, \u201ctalking about what we could do. There\u2019s been a collaboration with several events run by\u00a0<strong>Greg Dickel\u00a0<\/strong>of Iowa Premier and\u00a0<strong>Brian Madden<\/strong>\u00a0of Oklahoma A\u2019s and we\u2019ve been working all together to do more this spring to give clubs the chance to compete against each other at an elite level. We really started to get down to the nuts and bolts last month.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_23562\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23562\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-23562\" src=\"https:\/\/extrainningsoftball.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ryan-Taylor-of-Aces-Fastpitch-and-Co-Founder-of-Team-1-Softball-Events.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"252\" height=\"297\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-23562\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ryan Taylor of Aces Fastpitch and Co-Founder of Team 1 Softball Events.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Taylor says there were parallel conversations with the creators of the Texas League, which he feels has been a positive in the development of the Heart of America League.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe talked to those guys about what they\u2019re doing while having our own conversations in our region,\u201d continues the coach and former collegiate wrestler at Arizona State. \u201cI\u2019d definitely say getting confirmation from each other has helped us build a good product moving forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The HFL organizers are looking for the first of the sanctioned events to begin a month from today, June 11-14 at the Team 1 tournament in Kansas City. The event would be for teams and programs in the West division with the other divisions holding their own regional events leading up to a combined championship tournament where top teams from the three regions would compete.<\/p>\n<p>And like the Texas-centric softball circuit, the HFL\u2019s top teams would be decided a point system and all games will be live streamed and scored in real-time using\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/extrainningsoftball.com\/softball-technology-athletesgolive-combines-live-streaming-game-scoring-into-one-innovative-app\/\">AthletesGoLive<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe went to core events already established,\u201d Taylor continues, \u201cto have the quality to go into our league ratings. We\u2019ll build in other events and work with other people to add their events. We haven\u2019t talked about mid-week events as much like TFL; we\u2019re really focused on events already established and will pull them in together under one umbrella.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a release issued today, the HFL stated: &#8220;Teams will earn points based on their winning percentage in designated league games. Already established competitive events will be designated &#8220;HFL events.&#8221; Finishes in the tournaments will generate bracket points.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-font_8\">The HFL League Championship, will be open to all teams in the league.\u00a0 It will be seeded by a team\u2019s ranking based on the combination of league and bracket points, using Divisions within the League.\u00a0 The Championship will have a World Series format, with each team playing in a Regional. Winners will graduate to a Super Regional best two-out-of-three before advancing to the final eight that is played out just like the Women&#8217;s College World Series, culminating with a final series between two squads.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_23348\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23348\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-23348\" src=\"https:\/\/extrainningsoftball.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/TFL-logo-clean-5-3-20.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"340\" height=\"192\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-23348\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Texas FastPitch League and the Heart of America League could end up having top teams play at some point in the future.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"gmail-font_8\">&#8220;A date and venue has yet to be determined, but options are currently being explored and considered.\u00a0 The HFL is also exploring the real possibility of forming its Championship event in conjunction with the newly formed Texas Fastpitch League.\u00a0 Talks are ongoing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Another key component the HFL is looking to include is integrating with governing bodies including USSSA, PGF, Triple Crown and USA Softball.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re trying to understand how to connect the pieces with these organizations,\u201d the HFL head states.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor emphasizes that his new league is looking to promote spirit of cooperation with everyone and is not trying to replace existing events including Nationals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy goal was, when pulling this together, to put my kids in front of the best college teams I can and prepare them for college by playing elite programs. We travel to play good competition and there still has to be some of this on a national level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to still try to work with those organizations while doing what\u2019s right for us and for our players. If that conflicts with others, that\u2019s fine. We\u2019ll see what we can do better and how we can learn from our mistakes and that\u2019s OK, but I don\u2019t want teams to have to decide and try to avoid conflict with playing at events like PGF Nationals, we want to do what\u2019s best for our teams and many may want to do both (regional and national). I know I want my team to play the best across the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_23564\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23564\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-23564\" src=\"https:\/\/extrainningsoftball.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Dickel-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"223\" height=\"335\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-23564\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Greg Dickel of Iowa Premier, also a Co-Founder of Team 1, is the Deputy Commissioner.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Greg Dickel<\/strong>\u00a0adds: &#8220;We are not trying to compete or replace the nationally-recognized events of our partners in the governing bodies of fastpitch. We are trying to bridge the gap of affordability for families to do all this throughout the year, meaning playing regionally for the majority of the season so they can go to the national event and still be able to afford it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While much of the new Heart of America League is a work-in-progress, including the building of the championship event, the Division Leaders have decided that each will play locally before meeting together for the title series in a location such as Indianapolis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt doesn\u2019t make sense to play weekly with this many states (20 plus the District of Columbia),\u201d adds Taylor. \u201cWe\u2019re looking at doing very similarly what the guys in Texas did, having the teams play each other regionally multiple times to prepare mentally and physically, trying to replicate the college game. The biggest thing is to identify the best avenue to help our players develop and prepare to play at the next level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The HFL will provide competitive league opportunities for ages 10U up through 18U and maybe beyond.<\/p>\n<p>The league also announced today that the 10, 11 &amp; 12U age divisions will encompass the\u00a0<em>Futures Classification with\u00a0<\/em>14 thru 18U ages being designed as\u00a0<em>Showcase<\/em>\u00a0levels.\u00a0 The HFL is also exploring the option of developing a\u00a0<em>Women&#8217;s Division for College-Aged<\/em>\u00a0players, to take place after the collegiate season and to be played during the Summer.<\/p>\n<p>Another key goal of the Heart of America League is to reduce travel costs as much as possible.<\/p>\n<p>Said one source close to the League: &#8220;A focal point for the HFL will be we, in no way, will endorse or allow a &#8216;Stay to Play&#8217; requirement for lodging of teams that would travel to an HFL event during Regional play.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_23565\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23565\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-23565\" src=\"https:\/\/extrainningsoftball.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Beatty-166x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"191\" height=\"345\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-23565\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Evan Beatty of St. Louis Chaos is overseeing Legal Affairs.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Taylor finishes by saying his role will focused on finding and promoting good events that make sense for the Heart of America Elite Fastpitch League as well as getting everyone on the same page moving in a unified direction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe key,\u201d he believes, \u201cis to throw myself together with good people so we can all make the best decisions going forward.<\/p>\n<p>The HFL Board consists of the following members:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Commissioner\u00a0<strong>Ryan Taylor<\/strong>\u00a0(Aces Fastpitch)<\/li>\n<li>Deputy Commissioner\u00a0<strong>Greg Dickel<\/strong>\u00a0(Iowa Premier)<\/li>\n<li>East League Director\u00a0<strong>John Corn<\/strong>\u00a0(Lady Lightning)<\/li>\n<li>Junior Olympics Liaison\u00a0<strong>Tom Bunn\u00a0<\/strong>(Williamsburg Starz)<\/li>\n<li>Central Region Director\u00a0<strong>Warren Wolff\u00a0<\/strong>(Ohio Outlaws)<\/li>\n<li>Championship Director\u00a0<strong>Dan Runge<\/strong>\u00a0(Future Stars of Softball)<\/li>\n<li>Director of Ops\u00a0<strong>Cornelius Davis\u00a0<\/strong>(Oklahoma Athletics)<\/li>\n<li>Legal Affairs Director\u00a0<strong>Evan Beatty<\/strong>\u00a0(St. Louis Chaos)<\/li>\n<li>Western Division Director\u00a0<strong>Brian Madden<\/strong>\u00a0(Oklahoma Athletics)<\/li>\n<li>Northern Division Director\u00a0<strong>Sean Hall<\/strong>\u00a0(Midwest Speed)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic this year has been the push to make summer club softball more regionalized.
