Haylee Wait Named HFL Player of the Month for May

BY Jess Caron

The Alliance Fastpitch proudly announces Haylee Wait (2026) from the Heart of America Fastpitch League (HFL) as Player of the Month for her remarkable play in May 2024. Haylee Wait, a versatile player for Originals 26/27-Moss, excels in multiple positions—3B, P.

Haylee Wait’s softball journey begins at the age of seven. Initially involved in gymnastics, she and her older sister decide that the sport isn’t for them. They choose to try a season of recreational softball and quickly fall in love with the game. Haylee tries out for the competitive KC Dirt Devils and makes the 8U team, fully committing to competitive ball. She continues with the KC Originals in 10U and remains with the same team. Her sister, a catcher, joins an older Originals team a couple of years later. She has always been Haylee’s inspiration, helping her improve at pitching lessons and even working with her on the tee the night before Haylee hits her first home run. Their shared time is precious, especially as her sister prepares to head off to college this fall.

Haylee’s softball team is incredibly close, like a family, with many players having been together for years. Even newer members, whom she played with on the KC Dirt Devils, are integrated into the tight-knit group. The team may not be the biggest or strongest, but their great coaching, scrappiness, determination, and fiery spirit make them exceptional. They push each other to achieve amazing things, contributing to their greatness as a team.

A cherished memory for Haylee is from her second year of 12U during the World Fastpitch Championship tournament in Iowa. After falling into the losers bracket, the team faces the daunting task of winning six consecutive games to reach Championship Sunday. Despite the extreme summer heat and low expectations from others, the team plays six games late into the night and wins them all. Their determination and excitement to make it to Sunday are palpable, and although they finish in 5th place, the thrill of their comeback and the team photo after their 6th win, covered in sweat and dirt, makes the effort worthwhile.

Haylee’s favorite player is Mia Scott. Outside of softball, she finds joy in beach vacations, enjoying the sun, sand, and ocean, which bring her immense happiness.

Haylee’s current goals include maintaining a 4.0 GPA in high school, making First Team for her High School Varsity team again this year, graduating with honors, and attending college in Florida to study Marine Life. Her future career goal is to study and rehabilitate sea animals. The Alliance Fastpitch commends Haylee on her well-deserved recognition as Player of the Month, acknowledging her outstanding contributions to the sport and her commitment to personal and athletic growth.

What is the Alliance Fastpitch Player Recognition Program?

The Player Recognition Program was built to recognize and spotlight our individual players in each Member League. Each month, registered Alliance Fastpitch coaches can nominate a player from their age division. League Leadership will review nominations and a monthly stats report from AthletesGoLive (AGL) to determine the League’s Player of the Month.

Following the announcement of each League’s Players of the Month, the Alliance Fastpitch will recognize a National Player of the Month. To be considered for Player of the Month, your team must score League games in AGL so your stats will be included in the League’s monthly report.
