Carli Hays named TFL Junior Co-Player of the Month for December

BY Jess Caron

The Texas Fastpitch League (TFL) is excited to spotlight Carli Hays as the December Junior Player of the Month. Hays is a 2027 pitcher on 14U Texas Glory. Hays posted a 2-0 record in the month of December. The 2027 struck out a total of 9.

Softball Story –

I started playing softball when I was 6, I later started select ball when I was 8. I have mostly played for Texas Glory, but I have played for other teams and organizations. I started pitching when I was 9 and when I turned 12, I decided to be a pitcher only. Since I am the only PO on my team, I became the GM as well. I do the book, umpire meetings, etc.

Favorite Softball memory-

My favorite memory was when my old team was in Colorado for a tournament. We had been in a bad slump (lost 10 games in a row) and we were winning against a pretty competitive team. We ended up having a 2-hour rain delay in the last inning. When we came back, our pitcher was a bit emotional and had been struggling. We got 3 up 3 down and won the game, we had broken our slump and we started to get better. It made me realize that any team can accomplish so much by just working together and communicating.

Who is your favorite softball player?

My favorite softball player is Hailey Dolcini. I think playing at Texas would be cool and I like her style of pitching. We also have the same number.

What do you like to do outside of softball?

Softball is a big part of my life and most everything revolves around that. But I do like to support my 3 siblings in their sports, I am active in my Church and I like to do art and explore new TV shows. I also like to read, sometimes I work at a fried pies shop and do Bible journaling.

What are some of your current goals – both on and off the field?

One of my goals in softball is to master all my pitches and be better than I was the last time I was on the field. I also would like to deepen my relationship with God and my family. And I want to be more consistent in everything I do.

Coaches Feedback-

Tell us a bit about your athlete? As a player, person, etc.

Carli is an extremely accurate & consistent pitcher who has an uncanny ability to hit spots and spin the ball. Coach Shannon Rhodes has given her the name “51” as in Area-51 for her almost alien-like ability to mystify hitters with her ability to move the ball in and out of the strike zone. She has been with us for years, and in that time has bailed us out more times that we can count. Carli also plays a major role in team operations including lineup creation, plate meetings, appeals, and time management. As a person, Carli is one of the most caring, dependable, and passionate, athletes on the planet. This is the player that never misses, is never late, and quite literally gives 100% with everything she does.

Do you have a favorite memory or moment of this athlete?

Back when she was still 12u, Carli led us to a 14u NCS National Championship…in the rain! Her grit & determination to lead her team to victory that day is something our staff talks about regularly and will never forget.

What is the Alliance Fastpitch Player Recognition Program?

The Player Recognition Program was built to recognize and spotlight our individual players in each Member League. Each month, registered Alliance Fastpitch coaches can nominate a player from their age division. League Leadership will review nominations and a monthly stats report from AthletesGoLive (AGL) to determine the League’s Player of the Month.

Following the announcement of each League’s Players of the Month, the Alliance Fastpitch will recognize a National Player of the Month. To be considered for Player of the Month, your team must score League games in AGL so your stats will be included in the League’s monthly report.
