The Alliance Fastpitch proudly announces Kohen Gonzalez (2029) from the Texas Fastpitch League (TFL) as Player of the Month for her remarkable play in April 2024. Kohen Gonzalez, a versatile player for Texas Sudden Impact-Coker 14U, excels behind the plate. Her April stats include a .545 batting average, a .571 OBP, 6 singles and 3 RBIs.
Kohen Gonzalez’s softball journey begins after she has tried just about every sport, but it is softball that captures her heart. Her dad, a talented baseball player, inspires her to start playing by sharing countless stories from his own playing days, making the sport sound incredibly fun. He teaches her so much, fueling her passion for the game.
A cherished memory for Kohen is any game-saving play, but one stands out in particular. While playing a rival team, Kohen is catching when a ball is hit to right field. An overthrow to first occurs, but Kohen, backing up the first baseman, retrieves the ball and throws the runner out at second. The batter from that play is now her teammate, so no hard feelings remain, just a shared laugh.
Kohen’s favorite players are Koko Wooley and Julia Cottrill from the Texas A&M softball team. Outside of softball, she loves hanging out with her friends, going to the movies, playing football, having sleepovers, and just having fun. Kohen also enjoys playing volleyball and basketball for her school.
Currently, Kohen’s goals on the field include hitting a home run over the fence; she feels she is very close, having almost achieved it in a recent tournament in Louisiana. Off the field, her goal is to make all A’s in all of her classes. The Alliance Fastpitch commends Kohen on her well-deserved recognition as Player of the Month, acknowledging her outstanding contributions to the sport and her commitment to personal and athletic growth.
Kohen’s coach, Peyton Coker, describes her as the team’s spark behind the plate. She excels in doing the small things right and always hustles, constantly looking for the next play. Kohen puts her teammates first and works hard for the pitchers, always sporting a smile and bringing laughter to everyone around her. Coach Coker’s favorite memory of Kohen is from a few weekends ago when she ran from home plate all the way to second base to tag out a runner who was indecisive about advancing to third. In the next inning, she hit a ball to dead center field, showcasing her strength and determination.
What is the Alliance Fastpitch Player Recognition Program?
The Player Recognition Program was built to recognize and spotlight our individual players in each Member League. Each month, registered Alliance Fastpitch coaches can nominate a player from their age division. League Leadership will review nominations and a monthly stats report from AthletesGoLive (AGL) to determine the League’s Player of the Month.
Following the announcement of each League’s Players of the Month, the Alliance Fastpitch will recognize a National Player of the Month. To be considered for Player of the Month, your team must score League games in AGL so your stats will be included in the League’s monthly report.
