Halie Lavender Named TFL Player of the Month for July

BY Jess Caron

Halie Lavender’s softball journey begins at just six years old, right after her dance class. From the moment she throws her first pitch, she is captivated by the sport, and it quickly becomes her passion. Over the years, softball gives her more than just exciting games—it brings her lifelong friendships, unforgettable memories, and lessons that extend far beyond the field.

Throughout her journey, Halie has been fortunate to have an incredible group of coaches and teammates who have played a pivotal role in her growth. She credits her success to their support, with a special thanks to Coach Roy Hernandez, Coach Chance Harris, Coach Justin Walton, Coach Jed Sitar, Coach Eric Trevino, Coach David Churchill, Coach Bryan Simmons, Coach Tee Burgess (batting guru), Coach Mel (catching expert), Coach Roy Vaughan, and Coach Doug Caison (pitching maestros). Each coach has contributed to shaping her as both a player and a person.

One of Halie’s most cherished memories is winning her first softball tournament in 8U, a moment that will always hold a special place in her heart.

Her favorite player is Rachael Garcia, whose talent inspires her on the field. Outside of softball, Halie enjoys playing volleyball, balancing her athletic life with a love for another sport.

Currently, Halie’s goals include improving her math skills and one day playing professional softball. Her ambition also includes a dream of attending UCLA, where she hopes to continue her growth as an athlete.

Recently, The Alliance Fastpitch recognized Halie as Player of the Month, celebrating her outstanding contributions to the sport and her dedication to personal and athletic growth.

Her coach, Bryan Simmons, describes her as a fierce competitor on the field. Halie stands out as both a catcher and a pitcher who excels at both positions, despite being the youngest on the team. Off the field, she is known for her goofy personality and ability to make everyone laugh. Halie’s passion for softball is evident, as she is involved in the sport almost every day, never viewing her training as a chore but as something she loves.

One of Coach Simmons’ favorite memories with Halie, nicknamed “Lucky,” is when she begged him to let her run the bases after getting on base, a rare opportunity for a catcher and pitcher. During the run, as she rounds third, Halie trips and faceplants, crawling back to the base. Looking up at her coach, she laughs and says, “Okay, I see why you don’t let me run bases.” It remains one of the funniest moments Coach Simmons has ever witnessed on the field.

What is the Alliance Fastpitch Player Recognition Program?

The Player Recognition Program was built to recognize and spotlight our individual players in each Member League. Each month, registered Alliance Fastpitch coaches can nominate a player from their age division. League Leadership will review nominations and a monthly stats report from AthletesGoLive (AGL) to determine the League’s Player of the Month.

Following the announcement of each League’s Players of the Month, the Alliance Fastpitch will recognize a National Player of the Month. To be considered for Player of the Month, your team must score League games in AGL so your stats will be included in the League’s monthly report.
