Mikenna Shumaker named PCFL March Co-Junior Player of the Month

The Pacific Coast Fastpitch League (PCFL) is excited to spotlight Mikenna Shumaker as the March Co-Junior Player of the Month. Shumaker is a 3rd baseman on OC Batbusters Shumaker.

During the month of March, the 2029 boasted an impressive .750 batting average, 1.292 slugging percentage and a 2.061 OPS. Shumaker racked up 12 singles, 2 doubles, 1 triple and 3 homeruns with 12 RBIs. The speedy Shumaker also had six stolen bases.

“Mikki or Mik as she likes to be called, has a great attitude on and off the field, said coach Mike Shumaker.  “She has a lot to learn still about the game, but she brings with her a great Softball IQ.  She is always wanting to compete with her team and herself to get better, and we are looking forward to watching her develop on and off the field.  Congratulations on your Athlete of the month Mik, we appreciate all you do!”

Shumaker started playing softball at just 4 years old at Fullerton Hills.  “I have 2 older sisters that also played softball and I am almost always at a field or at a lesson for me or my sister,” she said.  “My older sisters Hailey and Taylor have taught me a lot about hard work and having fun while playing a sport you love.  This is my first Travel ball season on a new team. My team is awesome, and I am always excited to see them on and off the field.  We are becoming a close group, and I consider my teammates some of my closest friends.”

Her favorite thing about her team is all the coaches. “I really like going to our workouts as a team during the week.  We work out a lot during the week, and we love hanging out together with our awesome trainers-they make running and working out fun! I always look forward to hitting and fielding with Coach Mike and the other 10U girls.  We have a good time together; we challenge each other but still have fun even though we are on different teams.”

A favorite softball memory is hitting her first home run for her team.  “I love when I can make a play, or get a hit when my team needs me.  I am looking forward to creating more memories with my team this summer.  I am really excited to go to Oklahoma and play against a lot of really good teams.”

From all of us at the Alliance and the PCFL, congratulations to Mikenna Shumaker for her achievements.

What is the Alliance Fastpitch Player Recognition Program?

The Player Recognition Program was built to recognize and spotlight our individual players in each Member League. Each month, registered Alliance Fastpitch coaches can nominate a player from their age division. League Leadership will review nominations and a monthly stats report from AthletesGoLive (AGL) to determine the League’s Player of the Month.

Following the announcement of each League’s Players of the Month, the Alliance Fastpitch will recognize a National Player of the Month.

To be considered for Player of the Month, your team must score League games in AGL so your stats will be included in the League’s monthly report.
