The Texas Fastpitch League (TFL) is proud to name Teely Salazar the TFL’s 12U Fall Spotlight Athlete for 2021.
Hailing from Martin’s Mill, TX., Salazar contributed eye-popping numbers to her American Freedom National 12U team’s fall season! The 2028 graduate hit .378 in 105 plate appearances, with 36 RBIs, 12 walks, and 14 stolen bases.
Q: Tell us a little bit about you and your softball story?
A: I have been playing softball since I was 4, playing rec ball in my hometown. I have been playing travel softball and basketball since the beginning of 3rd grade. Softball is my favorite because I love to dive for any play and getting dirt all over my uniform. In Madill,OK I was introduced to American Freedom and what all they have to offer. Playing with American Freedom has taught me that I can make any play happen. I hope to play at Texas A&M one day and become a vet.
Q: What is your favorite softball memory?
A: One of my favorite softball memories was when we were playing a tournament in Houston at the end of the 10U season. This was one of my first tournaments playing with American Freedom. I made my first diving catch in centerfield and was able to keep the winning run from scoring.
Teely is an extremely important piece to the success of our American Freedom National 12U team. As a 2010 and the youngest member on our mostly 2009 roster, she has not let that define her or her place in the lineup or on the field. She travels two times per week over 1.5 hours one way to make team practices which shows a tremendous level of dedication not only from her but her family as well. On the field she is a staple in the outfield locking down center field where she consistently amazes us with her physical play of the game, her high-level softball IQ, and her vocal leadership. She is consistently influencing her team within the moment direction allowing her teammates to constantly make in game adjustments that directly impact her individual and her team success. Offensively, Teely is a staple cleanup who hits for power leading her team in RBI with 36 this fall and having the second most runs with 31. This young athlete’s future is bright and definitely one to keep an eye on as she continues to grow. Our Team and The American Freedom organization are both extremely proud of Teely and the impact she has on those around her.
