By: Hannah Famiano

April 23rd, 2021 – The Alliance Fastpitch is now introducing the AFCS Open Division across all age divisions, 10U-18U. The AFCS Open will be open to all leagues and registered Alliance teams and it will follow the same format of the Tier l and Tier ll Alliance Fastpitch Championship Series (AFCS) You do not need a Tier l or Tier ll birth, this is Open to any team. Register now!

What is different about the AFCS Open vs the AFCS Tier I or Tier II?

Teams must EARN a berth to the AFCS Tier I and AFCS Tier II. Tier I and Tier II berths are earned through League Championships or other qualifying tournaments. Teams do not have to
qualify or earn a berth to the Open, it’s open to all League teams. The Open Division allows a post season event for League Teams who do not qualify Tier I or II.

How to Enter the AFCS Open:

Registration is open for the AFCS Open division. Teams must be registered with their Member League and the Alliance Fastpitch to compete in the AFCS Open. If a team registers for the Open Division and then earns a Tier I or Tier II berth this Spring or Summer, then they would contact their League Administrator informing them of the teams decision to accept their berth and forge the Open Division.

What is the event format for the AFCS Open Division?

The AFCS Open Event Format will be the same as the AFCS Tier I and Tier II. This event
format resembles college softball’s postseason format by placing teams in a Regional double
elimination Bracket to start.

  • All Regional winners will advance to the Super Regionals best-of-
    three series.
  • All non-winners will move to the Qualifying Bracket, a double elimination bracket.
  • All Super Regionals winners will advance to the Elite 8, a split double elimination bracket.
  • The winners of each Elite 8 bracket will face off in a best 2 out of 3 National Championship Series.
