As part of the Alliance Fastpitch Player Recognition Program, we are excited to honor Southeastern Fastpitch League (SEFL) Sydney Carroll of the MS Bombers 16U (Gold/Knight) as the Senior Player of the Month for her admirable performance at the plate and in the circle in June.

Carroll showed out in the circle with a 4-2 record with 26.2 innings pitched and 20 strikeouts. At the plate Carroll showed out with a .500 batting average with a total of 68 at bats, 46 RBIS, 6 singles, 11 doubles, 1 triple, and an impressive 16 homeruns. Carroll showed that she in fact, can do both!

Players Response

Tell us a bit about your softball story! How’d you get started in the sport?

It all started when I was eight years old. I joined my first 8u Chelsea ball park team. That’s when I started my journey. I played pitchers circle and just fell in love with the mound. When I fell in love with the game I started my way toward travel softball which then gave me a great chance to experience different tournaments. I found my way towards my current team, MS Bombers 16 Gold/ Knight. I love this game and always finding something else to improve on everyday.

What has been your favorite softball memory?

My favorite softball memory would be my freshman year in school ball. Chelsea was playing in the Vestavia Tournament that had Chelsea and Hoover in the tournament. Our first game we played Vestavia and I had two at bats in the game and each at bat I hit a homerun. The second game we played Hoover which I had two at bats in the game as well which I hit two more homeruns. So on the day I had four back to back homeruns!

Who is your favorite softball player?

Hitting: Jocelyn Alo
• Jocelyn Alo is my favorite hitter because she is very selective in picking the best pitch to hit.
Pitching: Monica Abbott
• Monica Abbott is one of my favorite pitchers because she has such a great presence and and brings a lot of variety in her pitching.

What do you like to do outside of softball?

Outside of softball I like to give back to the community by training young softball players, I am on the Varsity Basketball Team, I am part of the Beta Club, I like hanging out with friends and participating in school events.

What are some of your current goals – both on and off the field? (Softball, school, other athletics, related, etc. all welcomed!)

Some of my current goals are to improve in 7A Division Area which being basketball and softball. Another goal is to keep my grades up and study for the ACT. I also teach my golden retriever Rosie to keep fetching my homeruns!

Coaches Response

Tell us a bit about your athlete? As a player, person, etc.

What to say, Big, Tall, Athletic, pretty much what you are looking for when you build a softball player. But really what sets her apart is how humble she is and how she can keep her emotions within parameters of not getting too high or too low. Great leader vocally and with her game play and work ethic.

Do you have a favorite memory or moment of this athlete?

At the beginning of the Travel Ball Season Syd told me she was gonna hit 20 Home Runs this Summer, maybe like after her first one or something and I kinda blew it off, like yeah yeah, let’s go get 20 kiddo.

After Colorado she reminded me that she only needs one more to have the 20,. But has set a new goal of 25 with only AFCS to go.

Is there anything else you’d like to share, include, or that we should know?

If softball doesn’t work out, she can twirl a bat like nobody’s business….

What is the Alliance Fastpitch Player Recognition Program?

The Player Recognition Program was built to recognize and spotlight our individual players in each Member League. Each month, registered Alliance Fastpitch coaches can nominate a player from their age division. League Leadership will review nominations and a monthly stats report from AthletesGoLive (AGL) to determine the League’s Player of the Month.

Following the announcement of each League’s Players of the Month, the Alliance Fastpitch will recognize a National Player of the Month. To be considered for Player of the Month, your team must score League games in AGL so your stats will be included in the League’s monthly report.
