Jericho Tate Recognized as SEFL Player of the Month for February

By: Caroline Helmer

The Southeastern Fastpitch League (SEFL) is excited to spotlight Jericho Tate in our Alliance Player Recognition Program as our February Player of the Month. For the remainder of the 2021 season, the SEFL will highlight Players of the Month from each different age group.

In their inaugural Fall season, Jericho Tate was a key asset to the success of the Fury Platinum – Morrison 14u team. Tate finished the year with impressive individual statistics and was selected as one of the top players invited to the Select30 game; which is an invitation only camp for the top players recognized in the country. At the camp, Tate was able to put in 6 innings of work on the mound, only giving up 3 hits and had 10 strikeouts. Along with pitching, Jericho is also a force to be reckoned with at the plate. Offensively, she recorded 3 doubles and a single at the camp, leaving there with a batting average of .444 and an on base percentage of .500.

As one of the top pitchers in the 14u division, Jericho finished the 2020 year with 53 innings pitched, tallying 51 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.86. Tate is a 2024 graduate and is a right-handed pitcher/utility player out of Lake Ridge, Virginia. She competes with the Fury Platinum out of Chattanooga, Tennessee and attends Bishop O’Connell high school. She is not yet committed to play collegiate softball but has a goal of that in the years to come.

“I started playing softball at 9 years old and it just came naturally to me, so I stuck with it,” said Tate when we asked her how she got started in the game. She loves to spend time with her teammates on and off the field and is a really outgoing, loving and determined young lady, who always loves to make people laugh however she can. Her favorite memory of softball defensively was when she was chosen as the recipient for the outstanding pitcher award at the 2020 SEFL Fall Championship tournament in Florida. Her favorite memory offensively came when she was in a hitting slump and she hit her first ever homerun over the fence.

Congratulations to Jericho Tate from the 14U Fury Platinum – Morrison for being recognized as the February SEFL spotlight athlete!

What is the Alliance Fastpitch Player Recognition Program?

The Player Recognition Program was built to recognize and spotlight our individual players in each Member League. Starting this Spring, each League will name a Player of the Month for different age divisions.

Registered Alliance Fastpitch players will be placed in a pool based on verified stats from AthletesGoLive (AGL). AthletesGoLive(AGL) will run monthly reports and submit to the player selection committee for each League.  Additionally, registered Alliance Fastpitch coaches will have the opportunity to submit a player for consideration. Committee members will review verified stats and consider coach feedback to name League Players of the Month.

Following the announcement of each League’s Players of the Month, the Alliance Fastpitch will recognize a National Player of the Month. To be considered for Player of the Month, your team must score League games in AGL so her stats are considered in the monthly reports.
