Meet Katie:

Q: Tell us a little bit about you and your softball story?
A: Softball was the last sport that I had attempted and I’m so thankful for it. I started playing at eight years old and began pitching at nine. Travel ball became my world  at ten years old. After watching the 2019 College World Series in OKC, playing college softball became very important to me.  Witnessing the incredible pitching and players, I was inspired to work hard and truly push myself to see just how far I can go (I’m still pushing LOL).   Besides softball, I love to cook and hangout with friends. School is also very important as I want to be a doctor when I grow up.

Q: What is your favorite softball memory?
A: One of my favorite softball memories is competing for Team Middle East in the Triple Crown International Cup this past summer in Denver, Colorado.  I  had never been to Colorado, and when we arrived it was beautiful.    The coaches, and most of the girls,  were from California,  so we did not have a chance to meet before the tournament.  At first I was nervous, but once we got onto the softball field, it was like we had known each other forever.  The girls were cheering for me at every pitch and during every game.  It was awesome.  The coaches were amazing, so supportive, and pushing me to do my best. We were playing Team Philipines, an incredible team where each batter had their own approach.  This challenged me mentally and physically at every pitch.  It was so loud too!  Their fans were cheering just like it was the Olympics!    I was able to grow in that moment.  I realized that softball is more than a sport, it is about the friendships and relationships you make while playing the game.  Softball can take you places you never dreamed you’d go.    It was truly a special experience, and something I will never forget.

Coaches Feedback:

From Coach Holcombe “ Katie is a fierce competitor on our team, has one of the highest softball IQ’s of the game for her age, and is always making adjustments during the game which not only helps herself out but keeps opposing teams on their toes”. Katie is very coachable as she responds well and understands the game plan and adjustments needed to excel. Her mound presence is outstanding and you can never tell by emotion whether her team is winning or losing by looking at her. Her teammates have tons of confidence in Katie when she toes the rubber because they know when she pitches you are always going to get 110% effort on every pitch. Katie is definitely one of the top pitchers in the nation in her graduating class and is going to get a lot more attention in the coming years. As her coach, I acknowledge all the hard work that Katie has put in to this point and am very thankful to her previous coaches for the job they did her teaching her the game. Our staff is going to continue to develop and take Katie to the next level as we will continue to play on the national stage. Coach Holcombe states “ Katie has got a lot of attention the past few months and she deserves every bit of it”.
