Softball Story (How did you get started?) Tell us about you-
When I first started, I played baseball for 3 years before I started playing softball at 8 years old. Also, I did some gymnastics when I was 6 and 7 that I believe helped me get more athletic. One of my memories of playing baseball is playing my cousin Valeria, now she plays on my GT team, she played on a team called storm troopers and I played on a team called chaos, we destroyed them!! When I first played softball, I kept getting out at first base, because I kept trying to get baseball leads and steal on the pitcher when she was not looking at me.
Favorite Softball memory-
My first year playing softball, I played on a team called Oklahoma Knockouts. At one of the practices, we practiced soft hands. They brought a cooler filled with water balloons, they would throw them at us, we had to catch them without popping the water balloons. Every time we would pop a balloon, we had to run a pole. It was the middle of summer, so I did not mind running a pole covered in water.
Coaches Feedback- Gametime 2009 Premier Head Coach, Sutv Meely
Avril Osuna is a player that every coach wants to have on their team and someone who you want your daughter to grow up to be like. She is the girl who will stay after practice and continue to put in extra work not because she has to but because she WANTS to. Avril brings huge power from the left side and is aggressive on the bases with her speed. Defensively, it is difficult to hit the ball past her because of her range and quick hands. Avril is one of the most versatile players in our age group, she can track down balls in the outfield, attack bunts at third base and make plays in the middle infield. One of her best qualities is that she is the most humble young lady that I’ve had the opportunity of coaching. You can find Avril smiling from ear to ear no matter how big the situation is. She truly loves this game and will continue to grow into the amazing athlete that she is already.
What is the Alliance Fastpitch Player Recognition Program?
The Player Recognition Program was built to recognize and spotlight our individual players in each Member League. Each month, registered Alliance Fastpitch coaches can nominate a player from their age division. League Leadership will review nominations and a monthly stats report from AthletesGoLive (AGL) to determine the League’s Player of the Month.
Following the announcement of each League’s Players of the Month, the Alliance Fastpitch will recognize a National Player of the Month.
To be considered for Player of the Month, your team must score League games in AGL so your stats will be included in the League’s monthly report.
