Sophia Bertorelli Named SEFL July Player of the Month

By jess

The Southeastern Fastpitch League (SEFL) is excited to spotlight Sophia Bertorelli in our Alliance Player Recognition Program as our July Player of the Month.

Sophia Bertorelli is from Coral Springs, FL. She will be graduating from Coral Springs Charter High School in 2025. Sophia plays club ball for Tampa Mustangs Viruet. She has been a rock in the circle for her team throwing 187 innings. With 22 wins and 5 losses her spectacular ERA sits at 1.50. This Ace has recorded 211 strikeouts for her team!

Not only is she a threat in the circle, but she also gets the job done at the plate. Swinging a .301 Batting Average, Sophia has tallied 47 hits in her 188 Plate Appearances. With 6 doubles, 1 triple, and a whopping 44 RBI’s, Sophia is an all around athlete on the dirt.

Sophia’s career started by watching her older sister play ball and wanting to spend more time with her. Her sister’s team needed a catcher, so she convinced her father to buy her some catcher’s gear. She caught and pitched through 10U and 12U, but 12U was when she decided she wanted to pitch full time. Sophia expresses how lucky she’s been growing up to have great teammates that always have her back and Coaches to push her to never settle for “OK” or “good enough”.

Her favorite memory of the game goes back to her first Varsity High School game, when she started at third base as an 8th grader, alongside her older sister who was playing shortstop.

Sophia’s coaches had nothing but great things to say about her. Her coach stated that, “On the mound Sophia has proven she is one of the top pitchers in her class. She throws a live ball that has a lot of movement. Loves to compete on the big stage and has worked hard to be the ace of the team. Defensively, she is able to hold her own at multiple positions. Not only is she a lock down first baseman, but she can also play the outfield. Along with that she can also play third base and not hesitate to dive for any ball. You can depend on Sophia to come home with a dirty uniform. Offensively, she is a line drive hitter that has power to all fields. Sophia has come up big in stress-full situations against big teams. She’s a baller!”

Congratulations to Sophia Bertorelli  from the Tampa Mustangs Viruet  for being recognized as the July SEFL Player of the Month!

What is the Alliance Fastpitch Player Recognition Program?
The Player Recognition Program was built to recognize and spotlight our individual players in each Member League. Each month, registered Alliance Fastpitch coaches can nominate a player from their age division. League Leadership will review nominations and a monthly stats report from AthletesGoLive (AGL) to determine the League’s Player of the Month.

Following the announcement of each League’s Players of the Month, the Alliance Fastpitch will recognize a National Player of the Month.

To be considered for Player of the Month, your team must score League games in AGL so your stats will be included in the League’s monthly report.”
