The Northwest Fastpitch League (NWFL) is excited to spotlight Shelby Southard as the August Player of the Month. The 2026 is a middle infielder and outfielder for Ai Bandits Breer 14u.

In August, Southard had an impressive showing at the plate with a batting average of .613, a 0.613 OBP, 1.419 OPS and a notable .806 slugging percentage. Southard racked up 14 singles, 4 doubles, a triple and swiped 2 bases! Her performance for the month of August earned her a spot on the AFCS All-Tournament team.

How did you get started?

I have been playing since I was 2 years old. Trying to hit wiffle balls like my big brother. I have been in love with the game ever since.

Favorite Softball memory-

Feeling like I was part of a special group of girls last Summer at Alliance Nationals has been the most special to me. There is nothing like being on the field with great coaches, friends and teammates at big events.

Coach Feedback –

Coaching is much easier with run producers like Shelby. Rarely does she have a wasted at bat. Although she makes it look effortless and natural it is her determination and countless hours of dedicated practice behind the scenes that allows her to dominate the diamond. Watching her hit this past weekend brought about a comparison to Ichiro Suzuki. Sometimes players are just great at getting the barrel to the ball. Good luck finding a more perfect two hitter to put in your lineup. Oh yeah! I guess I should add she plays catch pretty well on defense. Congrats Shelby. #aibanditsstyle
