The Heart of America Fastpitch League (HFL) is excited to spotlight Megan Nuechterlein as the October Senior Player of the Month. Nuechterlein is a pitcher for Turnin2 National Maloney 18u and is committed to Kent State University.

Nuechterlein threw a lights out October on the mound with 31 K, a 1.33 ERA and a 1.0 WHP. The 2023’s batting did not disappoint with a .429 AVG, a .500 OBP and a .714 SLG.

Softball Story (How did you get started? Tell us about you-

I was seven when I first started playing softball for a parks and recreational team. My dad signed me up for a group pitching lesson which I really enjoyed. Three years later, I tried out for my first ever travel team and made it. I have been playing softball ever since then.

Favorite Softball memory-

My favorite softball memory is making it to the State Finals with my High School softball team.

What do you do outside of softball?

I like to hang out with family and friends. I also like to travel with my family. I like to cook. I like to go up north to my family cottage.

What are some of your current goals – both on and off the field? (Softball, school, other athletics, related, etc. all welcomed!)

My goal on the field is to continue improving my pitching; specifically on my spin. My goal off the field is to work hard in college and graduate with a degree I can find success in.

Coaches Feedback-

Megan is a very humble kid. Everyone loves her. One of the nicest people you’ll ever see. On the field though she is a fierce competitor. Especially as a pitcher.

When I coached her at 10u, she was in a really tough spot and wanted to come out of the game. I went and talked to her and told her she needs to dig deep and figure out how to finish this game. Ultimately she struck out the next 3 batters with bases loaded and we won by 1. I think she learned there that she was really good.

Megan is a gifted athletes committed to play at Kent State. Last year she led her HS team to the D1 state championship game in Michigan. She’s a great pitcher but a power hitter as well. She had a great fall pitching and on defense.

What is the Alliance Fastpitch Player Recognition Program?

The Player Recognition Program was built to recognize and spotlight our individual players in each Member League. Each month, registered Alliance Fastpitch coaches can nominate a player from their age division. League Leadership will review nominations and a monthly stats report from AthletesGoLive (AGL) to determine the League’s Player of the Month.

Following the announcement of each League’s Players of the Month, the Alliance Fastpitch will recognize a National Player of the Month.

To be considered for Player of the Month, your team must score League games in AGL so your stats will be included in the League’s monthly report.
