Team Points & Standings

How Does The Alliance Calculate Points & league Standings?

1

How to Earn Points

1

Set Up Your AthletesGoLive (AGL) Account

Every team must create an AthletesGoLive (AGL) Team Account to earn points towards Alliance Team Rating. Player names must be exactly the same in both Alliance membership and AGL Team Account — use legal names to avoid mismatches. Contact [email protected] if you need help getting set up.

2

Link Your Team IDs in Both Systems

You need your Alliance Team ID and your AGL Team ID entered in both platforms. Log into AGL — your Alliance ID should appear on the Home page. Then log into your Alliance Dashboard to confirm your AGL Team ID is listed there too.

3

Find "Points Events" on Your League Schedule

Not every tournament counts. Check the Event Type column on your league schedule — only Points Events and Qualifiers earn team rating points. Stats-Only Events do not count. Qualifiers also earn AFCS berths.

4

Score & Stream Every Game with AGL

Use the tournament's AGL Event ID when scoring and streaming with AGL. Select the correct opponent AGL Team ID for each game — or their Alliance Team ID if they don't have an AGL Team ID.

Critical: If you don't score in AGL, the game does not count. The Alliance only receives automated results from AGL — no other scoring platform feeds into the system.
5

Check Your Results in the Digital Dugout

Game results appear automatically in your Team Profile and Digital Dugout. Allow up to 72 hours after your tournament for results to show up. Email [email protected] if you are missing game results after those 72 hours.

Tip: Playing a tournament not on the League Schedule? Submit it here to be considered for Points Event status.

How the Rating System Works

The Alliance uses the Elo rating system — the same method used by FIFA, the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and college sports rankings. It's the most widely trusted system for competitive standings.

🔄

Points Transfer Between Teams

Every game moves rating points from the losing team to the winning team. The amount depends on how expected the result was.

🏆

Beat Stronger Teams, Gain More

Beating a higher-rated team earns a big rating jump. Beating a lower-rated team earns very few points. Tough competition is rewarded.

🛡️

Safe to Schedule Strong Opponents

If you're the underdog and lose, you barely drop. There's no penalty for scheduling tough — the system encourages upward competition.

⚡

Bracket Games Count More

The K-factor is 32 for bracket games and 16 for pool play. A bracket result has twice the rating impact of a pool play game.

3

Starting Ratings

Every team begins the season with a default rating based on their division. If you are renewing your team, see Section 4 to learn more about how your Team Rating carries over each season.

1600
Super Division
Also applies to 10U teams
1400
Champions Division
Default starting rating
If your team ends a season below your division's default, you reset back to the default at the start of next season — you're never penalized into a hole.

Example: A Super Division team that finishes at 1580 starts the following season back at 1600.
4

Season-to-Season Carryover

Renew with the same Team ID and part of your rating carries forward — giving returning teams a more accurate starting point instead of resetting to zero.

75%
Same age group, same division
Your history carries most strongly when nothing else changes
25%
Same division, different age group
Moving up or down in age? You keep a smaller portion of your rating
RESET
Changed divisions (Super ↔ Champions)
Start fresh at the new division's default rating

A Real Points Example

Here's how points move in a pool game (K=16) between two teams. Click a scenario to see the result.

Team A
1800
Strong Favorite
VS
Team B
1500
Underdog
Team A — Winner
+2.4
Small gain — expected to win
Team B — Loser
−2.4
Small drop — expected to lose
Team A — Loser
−13.6
Big drop — lost when heavily favored
Team B — Winner
+13.6
Big jump — pulled off the upset!
Key takeaway: Playing stronger teams is always worth it. Win and your rating jumps significantly. Lose and you barely drop. The system is built to reward ambition.

Alliance Power Points

Bonus Alliance Power Points (APP) are awarded when you travel outside your home league's territory — or when you host a traveling team — during a Points Event.

Traveling / Neutral Ground

Tie2 pts
Loss1 pt

Local / Home League

Win2 pts
Tie1 pt
Loss0 pts
Even a traveling team that loses earns 1 Power Point — the Alliance rewards teams willing to compete away from home.
