Alliance Event Types And League Standards

Alliance Event Types And League Standards

Not every event on your league schedule works the same way, and the differences matter. Each tournament carries an event type designation that determines what your team earns from it: season stats, points towards team rankings, a national event berth, or all three.

This page walks you through what each event type means for your team and athletes, where those events fit into the bigger picture of a season, and how each Alliance League sets its own standards for how tournaments are classified.

Stats-Only Points & Stats Qualifiers

Alliance Event Types

All tournaments on Alliance League Schedules require teams to use the AGL Event ID and score and stream their games with AthletesGoLive. That requirement is what makes it possible for Alliance to track verified stats, update team rankings, and build the athlete profiles that college coaches use during recruiting evaluation.

Within that framework, tournaments are designated as one of three event types: Stats-Only, Points & Stats, or Qualifiers. Some tournaments qualify for more than one designation. Each type determines what your team and athletes earn from that weekend of competition.

If your tournament is not listed on an Alliance League Schedule and you would like your players' stats included in their Alliance season totals, submit your tournament info here and we can add it to our schedule.

Note: Tournaments on Alliance Schedules are hosted by various event operators.

Stats-Only Events

Stats-Only events are tournaments where your athletes' individual performance is captured and added to their Alliance season stat totals, even if the tournament does not meet the requirements for team ranking points. These stats feed directly into each athlete's Alliance Profile, appear on national leaderboards, and count toward Player Awards and Recognition.

Any youth softball tournament can qualify for a stats-only event — submit yours here.

For coaches newer to Alliance, Stats-Only events are a great entry point. Your athletes' stats are building from day one, regardless of whether the tournament also earns team points. There are typically no minimum requirements on game time length or finishing the inning for a tournament to carry a Stats-Only designation.

Points & Stats Events

Points & Stats Events do everything a Stats-Only event does, and they also contribute to your team's Alliance Team Rating. Your Alliance Team Rating determines your team's national ranking, League ranking, and plays a role in your National Event seedings.

Game results are pulled directly from AthletesGoLive to the Alliance following the tournament, approved by your League Admin, and applied to your Team Profile. Your Alliance Team Rating is influenced by both the outcome of each game (win/loss/tie) and the strength of your opponent, so strong finishes against competitive teams carry more weight.

Points & Stats events are the backbone of a well-built season schedule. Because of the game length requirements, they also better prepare athletes for the pace and structure of college softball. Each Alliance League sets its own requirements for game time minimums and finishing the inning for a tournament to be classified as a Points Event. Check your league's standards in the table below.

National Events

National events are what your team is working toward all season. They sit at the top of the Alliance competitive calendar, with higher stakes, championship competition, and the greatest concentration of college coaches. Alliance offers several national event options to accommodate different competition levels and team goals.

Super Cup Finals
Premier Showcase Event

Super Cup Finals

The Super Cup Finals for 14U, 16U, and 18U is Alliance's premier showcase event, featuring 200+ college coaches in attendance. All teams must qualify throughout the year, with Super Cup Qualifiers regional based to ensure competitive balance. For athletes in the prime recruiting window, this is one of the most valuable events on the calendar. The Super Cup Finals is played in Aurora, CO during Triple Crown's 4th of July and the IDT Tournament. College coaches use EventBeacon (powered by SportsRecruits) to access team rosters, athlete profiles, and game schedules in real time from the sideline.

The Super Cup Finals for 10U, 12U, and first-year 14U teams is hosted in Midwest City, OK during the Women's College World Series (WCWS), bringing top youth teams from across the country to compete in a WCWS-style atmosphere.
National Championship

Alliance Fastpitch Championship Series (AFCS)

The Alliance Fastpitch Championship Series (AFCS) is the most premier national championship event in youth softball. The AFCS format mirrors the NCAA Softball postseason, giving athletes a taste of college-level competition while maximizing college coach exposure at the national stage for 14U, 16U, and 18U teams. Teams must earn a berth through an AFCS Qualifier. All teams are seeded based on their Alliance Team Rating, ensuring competitive balance throughout the bracket.

Alliance Fastpitch Open Nationals
No Berth Required

Alliance Fastpitch Open Nationals (AFON)

The Alliance Fastpitch Open Nationals (AFON) is a top-level national event with no qualifying berth required. It is designed for competitive teams who may not earn an AFCS bid, or who are looking for a shorter end-of-season event closer to home. To accommodate regional travel, the Alliance offers two Open Nationals each year, one in the east and one in the west. Both events deliver top-level competition, a full national championship experience and awards, and college coaches on site.

Regional Events

Regional events offer competitive, championship-style experiences within your region, and for many teams they are exactly the right fit depending on your athletes' age, goals, and recruiting timeline. Regional events are typically drivable but provide the same competitive experience.

League Championships

Similar to Conference Championships in NCAA Softball, Alliance League Championships offer competitive formats and regional or state bragging rights. Each regional league hosts its own League Championship in the fall, summer, or both. Most leagues use their League Championship as an AFCS Qualifier, and fall League Championships frequently fall within the Division I recruiting period, making them a high-value recruiting event for teams with 16U and 18U athletes.

Regional Championships

Regional Championships give regional teams a competitive end-of-season event with a national championship feel. These are open-entry, non-qualifying events that mirror the AFCS in format, off-field activities, and awards, bringing the full championship experience to a regional stage. From a recruiting perspective, Regional Championships are a strong option for teams looking to stay closer to home, as these events attract meaningful regional college coach attendance.

Event Standards by League

Each Alliance League sets its own standards for how tournaments impact player stats, team points, and qualifier eligibility. The table below outlines the Event Standards for every Alliance League. You can also use the League Map to find your region.
