Super Cup Team Spotlight – EC Bullets Cornett
By jess
The EC Bullets Cornett started together as a 2nd year 14u team just 2 years ago. Since then, head coach Steve Cornett along with assistants Mike Abromovage and Josh Schaen, have been building a team with excellent talent and exceptional character.
The following are the EC Bullets players to watch this year at the Super Cup:
- Meghan Grey is a catcher and corner infielder in the class of ‘24. Meghan has a cannon behind the plate reaching an overhand velocity of 74 mph. She maintains great relationships with her pitchers. Meghan has a lot of power at the plate and leads the team in home runs every year. Coach Cornett couldn’t imagine the team without her.
- Sammie Borrayo is a pitcher in the class of ‘24. She is a rise ball and changeup pitcher. Sammie has beaten some of the best teams in the country. Her changeup is extremely effective. Sammie is the only pitcher who has been on the team since the beginning. She can also play corners, the outfield and swings the bat well with a lot of power. This past high school season she was named regional player of year, 1st team all-district player, and 2nd team all-state in Virginia.
- Lauren Archambault is a utility player in the class of ‘24. Lauren can be successful anywhere, she has started a shortstop, third base, first base, and in left field. She is one of the main vocal leaders of the team. Her teammates completely trust her on the field. She holds down the 2 spot in the lineup and can hit to any part of the field with power.
- Riley Hwang is a middle infielder/utility player in the class of ‘24. Riley joined the team this past winter, but played for Coach Cornett when she was 8 years old. She has the smoothest and cleanest fundamentals he’s seen and is an extremely well-rounded player Riley also hits for power and is a competitor at the plate who doesn’t have bad at bats.
- Payton Auerbach is a middle infielder in the class of ‘25. Payton is everyone’s favorite player to watch. She has been the leadoff hitter since the day the team started. She makes every play and does a great job of holding down the middle infield with Riley Hwang. The pair have completely changed the middle infield for the EC Bullets, with the two of them in the middles there is no play that won’t be made. She is an excellent teammate and is the first to celebrate all her teammate’s successes.
- Ava Abromavage is an outfielder in the class of ‘25. Ave is one of the youngest players on the team but has the biggest voice. Her teammates look to her to pump up the team. She has been a part of the team since the beginning. She has a great arm and is a great all-around player. During her high school season, Ava was named district player of the year, regional player of the year, and 1st team all-state in Virginia.
The EC Bullets have been a part of the Alliance since it started. They have gotten berths to the National Tournament all 3 years. Coach Cornett enjoys the Alliance because “they get to continuously play the best of the best”. They are excited to play in the Super Cup because they will continue to play high quality teams from around the country.
The Super Cup finals presented by EvoShield will take place on Tuesday, June 27 in Aurora, Colorado. To learn more about the Super Cup click HERE.
