The Alliance Fastpitch is honored to recognize Sophia Holcomb (2028) from the Central Fastpitch League (CFL) as the Alliance National Pitcher of the Month for her outstanding November performance. Sophia is a pitcher for Epic National 09 Smith. In the circle, Sophia had a perfect 5-0 record accompanied by 24 strikeouts and a WHIP of just 0.99. She was also a threat at the plate, batting an impressive .462 with 11 runs batted in, 1 homerun, and using her speed to grab 5 stolen bases.

Sophia Holcomb’s journey in softball began in the first grade when she joined a team that included her older sister. The influence of her sibling’s pitching lessons sparked Sophia’s interest, and her natural aptitude for the game became clear when a pitching coach noticed her abilities. Subsequently, she embarked on pitching lessons, setting the stage for a softball journey marked by passion and dedication.

What resonates most with Sophia about softball is the deep and lasting friendships she has forged with teammates from each team she’s been a part of. The joy of catching up with old teammates between games adds a special dimension to the sport. Additionally, the opportunity to travel to new places for tournaments and explore different cities has become a source of excitement and adventure for Sophia.

A standout moment in Sophia’s softball career occurred at the age of 10 when she pitched an eight-inning game against her big sister’s team and emerged victorious. This achievement not only showcased her skill but also added a memorable chapter to her softball story.

Sophia’s softball idol is Kelly Barnhill, whose poise on the mound and passion for the game left a lasting impact. Watching Kelly play in the first Women’s College World Series that Sophia ever witnessed inspired her and solidified her admiration for the sport.

Beyond the softball diamond, Sophia is a multi-talented athlete who runs track for her school. Her interests extend to shopping and active participation in church youth group activities.

Setting ambitious goals, Sophia aspires to throw a perfect game in the upcoming spring season and increase her home run tally. Off the field, her academic ambitions include finishing the year with straight A’s. In track and in the gym, Sophia aims to set new personal records, showcasing her commitment to excellence both on and off the field.

What is the Alliance Fastpitch Player Recognition Program?

The Player Recognition Program was built to recognize and spotlight our individual players in each Member League. Each month, registered Alliance Fastpitch coaches can nominate a player from their age division. League Leadership will review nominations and a monthly stats report from AthletesGoLive (AGL) to determine the League’s Player of the Month.

Following the announcement of each League’s Players of the Month, the Alliance Fastpitch will recognize a National Player of the Month. To be considered for Player of the Month, your team must score League games in AGL so your stats will be included in the League’s monthly report.
